Hi Linda,

The DOJ/NIJ budget workbook is….challenging. And yes, you can absolutely split the lines for a faculty member on a 9-month appointment asking for both AY and summer support.

We do that here because the fringe benefit rate in the summer is significantly lower because all 12 months of health insurance is charged during their 9-month contract and that is the only way the form will work.

Hello Fellow RAs!

Thank you in advance for your feedback and expertise. I am working on an NIJ proposal budget, and because this is my first time with this Sponsor, I want to make sure I’m entering it correctly.

The worksheet wants you to show an annual salary, not monthly or anything else even though the rate column has other options (e.g., hourly, monthly, yearly).

My questions are:

  1. If the PI is taking a course release, equivalent to 33.33% (3 months) during the AY, the only way that I can get it to calculate the correct total cost is manipulating the percentage of time.
  2. The 2nd line is for one summer month, and I need it to show it as two separate pay lines since one is paid 1/12th (AY) and the other 1/9th (summer).

My narrative of course has more detailed information.  Am I doing this correctly or should the time worked be different?

Any feedback, help, or budget samples are greatly appreciated!

Thank you and have a great day!

Linda
