Senior Grants and Contracts Accountant
(Hybrid/Remote Eligible for State of Georgia Residents)
Responsible for managing and properly accounting for a grant portfolio that includes multiple sponsored awards from federal, state, local, and private
agencies. The Senior Grants and Contracts Accountant plans, develops, and prepares financial analysis and reports. The Senior Grants and Contracts Accountant is responsible for applying proper accounting principles as well as adherence to Morehouse School
of Medicine policies and procedures and sponsor guidelines.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensures administrative compliance with post award grants and contracts activities to ensure timely submission of sponsored projects reporting requirements, reconciliations, draw
down of funds, and invoicing in accordance to agency guidelines.

Possesses strong knowledge of and expertise in policies and best practices for managing federal and non-federal grants and contracts in higher education as well as a healthcare
entity.

Gathers data and analyzes information to assist in recommendations and optimization of appropriate use of funding sources.

Monitors expenses, tracks balance, conducts variance analysis, and projects burn rate and future utilization.

Assist Executive Director and Grants & Contract Compliance Manager in management of grants management activities as it relates to the assigned portfolio, such as financial monitoring
and reporting, grant budgets, salary allocations, reconciliation of accounts; performs accounting associated with monthly and annual close; supports financial audits using Institution’s accounting systems.

Ensure federal grant reports, invoicing, reimbursements are processed accurately and in a timely manner; confirms grants and contracts are closed out appropriately.

Ensures grant budgets are updated as required to ensure budgets are accurately presented in the Banner/Cayuse system based on most recent Notice of Awards.

Prepares information for executive level presentations as required and performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or related field.

Five years of progressively more responsible sponsored accounting practices experience in a higher education or healthcare environment.

Strong customer service attitude

Strong analytical capabilities; excellent written, verbal, problem solving and communication skills; in-depth working knowledge of computerized accounting systems; demonstrated
track record as a team player; proven experience with Microsoft office suite product.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Preferred Skills
- Seven (7) years of relevant professional experience in accounting demonstrating strong financial accounting skills as well
as grant administration knowledge and skills
- Knowledge of sponsored policies and systems, e.g., federal draw systems, and research.gov
- Experience with Ellucian Banner ERP
- Experience with Cayuse Research Administration Suite
- Demonstration of ability to manage numerous workflows and projects simultaneously
