The College of Arts & Sciences (A&S) Office of Research and Creative Activity invites the application of a Research Development Manager to support research, scholarship and creative
activity (RSCA) in the College. Reporting to the Director of Research, the individual will be a key strategic resource for faculty and staff in the academic departments, centers, and institutes comprising the A&S RSCA enterprise. This position will enhance
the RSCA enterprise through expert, on-going technical direction and guidance to faculty, staff, and students. The Research Development Manager will be responsible for working independently with investigators facilitating strategic team development, planning,
communication with sponsors, as well as providing strategic reviews and analysis of proposals alongside synthesis of promising concepts to spur the development of competitive proposals.

Primary Responsibilities
The Research Development Manager will actively contribute to CAS Office of Research and Creative Activity RSCA goals through (1) long-term capacity-building and positioning activities
that align College faculty for future success, and (2) short-term proposal development activities that substantively contribute to the strength and success of proposal submissions for external funding or recognition through prestigious awards and fellowships.
This position supports strategic research initiatives by preparing and editing proposals, connecting collaborators, and helping investigators develop new skills to achieve RSCA agendas. The RD Manager facilitates the success of both individuals and teams,
often connecting them with resources from the College, UT campus, and beyond. The RD Manager also provides expert input and guidance to CAS leadership, and exercises independent initiative and judgment to develop and lead major activities that contribute to
the success of the RSCA enterprise. This will include a focus on supporting CAS investigators to submit larger complex proposals for center-level) awards, while fostering relationships with other individuals and groups across the UTK campus and UT institutions
as well as with funding agency program officers as appropriate to targeted funding opportunities.
Additional Responsibilities
Minimum Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree with three years relevant experience in proposal development, research development, technical writing/editing, or team science.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master’s degree with two years relevant experience in proposal development, research development, technical writing/editing, or team science.
Qualifications
• Experience related to proposal development
• Fundamental knowledge and understanding of how federal sponsors support research activities, preferably in a university or national laboratory environment;
• Experience interpreting funding opportunity announcements (RFAs/RFPs/PAs/BAAs) issued by federal, state, private, and corporate sponsors;
• Excellent communication (oral & written), analytical, strategic planning, and organizational skills;
• Ability to: take responsibility for and ownership of assignments; proactively and independently solve problems; prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks in order to
meet hard internal and external deadlines and work-well under pressure; and, build and maintain work relationships across a diverse workforce
• Flexibility to take on new tasks and re-prioritize in a constantly changing environment;
• Skilled commitment to, and delivery of, superior customer service;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Professional, all web interfaces, and Windows and/or MAC operating systems, and the ability to quickly learn new software programs
