Good evening,
I need some help from the general brain trust here to see what the usual practice is. NIH T32 training programs allow for the purchase of training related items/supplies, such as laptops, when they are budgeted for in advance and support
the training purposes. I believe this should be treated similar to any supply or equipment purchased with federal dollars and remain with the grant for as long as it is useful to the next trainee (asset inventory control). I have seen two trainees, with
the support and help of their faculty mentor, refuse to return the laptops purchased at the end of their training period and move on to their careers elsewhere. Does anyone have language on this? What is the practice at your institution? Is this commonly
understood to be a “gift” to the trainee?
Thanks!
Jennifer
