We have a homegrown USF Summer Grant Writing Workshops program that has evolved over the years. Pitching high-risk, high-reward ideas in a competitive marketplace requires a distinct skillset in which first-person storytelling and the process-oriented technical writing are brought together. Now online, the program is available to early career faculty and grant writers everywhere.

Researchers have a pioneering spirit, and effective training further prepares them to be at the forefront as thought leaders and innovators.

Grant writing is a specialized genre of writing that is distinct from other academic writing. The core objectives of this grantsmanship training are to advance understanding of the art and architecture of preparing a clear, comprehensive, and compelling research proposal. Participants are encouraged to identify a grant opportunity (week 1), draft their proposal (weeks 2-7), and participate in mock peer review (week 8).

The Summer Grant Writing Workshops program include:

Participants will receive a Training and Activity Guidebook (TAG) in the mail after they register. The TAG is designed especially for early career grant writers.

The USF Summer Grant Writing Workshops program begins on June 5th with an overview of grantsmanship and wraps up July 28th with mock peer review.

Registration is open for 2023. Flyer is attached. Please share.

Subject: [RESADM-L] Looking for Institutional PI Training

Good afternoon!

What are some recommendations for PI training programs that have worked for other institutions?  I know that these exist (because Dr. Google pulled up a ton during my search), but I would like to hear from some of you about what your institution does and what system your institution uses.

We would like something that is easily accessible for users and also trackable—maybe like a certification—so that we (OSP) knows that the user has completed the course.  I would be interested to hear from anyone who uses something either commercially available or homegrown for your PIs to (hopefully) become educated with the grant process.

Thanks,
