Hello Kari,

Are you working directly with Tribes or with Tribal Colleges and Universities? Diné College regularly accepts and issues subawards from non TCUs so that is one route you could take if working with (most) TCUs. Some issues for Diné College would be

• will there be human subjects research? (Diné College and Navajo Nation each have their own IRB process)
• what artifacts will be used in the research and how?
• How will the views of traditional knowledge holders and epistemic frameworks be considered?

However, Tribes have sovereignty, and so just because an arrangement works for one does not mean it will work for another.

This sounds like a great project and wish you the best in finding a way to bring folks together.
