Department Information

The Department of Medicine's research unit is the administrative office that handles both pre- and post-award grant duties for Divisions within the Department. We strive to achieve excellence in all aspects of Research Administration including basic, translational, and clinical research. Supporting faculty through their creative process and providing the hands-on experience for grant submission and funds management are our goals.

 

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

Counsels and assists research faculty and staff in creating and submitting proposals, reviews and approves/disapproves grant-related expenses, maintains projections and balances for grant accounts, and submits progress and/or financial reports.

Performs responsibilities with a high degree of independent decision-making, which includes gathering, interpreting, and analyzing information from agency guidelines, federal policies, IU policies, Office of Research Administration policies, etc., in order to make informed decisions and advise Principal Investigators appropriately.

Maintains own individual lists of Principal Investigators and accounts, separate from those of other teammates, but should also be prepared to assist any teammate with their projects, in times of particularly heavy workflow and deadlines.

 

General Responsibilities

Provides financial monitoring and analysis of contracts and grants to ensure expenses are being paid according to contract.

Consults on and completes pre-award applications and participates in contract closeouts.

Performs post-award accounting of grants.

Interprets regulations and guidelines of program funding for standard grants and prepares reports for grant agencies.

Evaluates contract compliance and advises others on contractual rights and obligations.

Prepares bids or proposals; negotiates contract terms and participates in the determination of acceptable bids.

Ensures compliance with sponsor terms, university policy/procedures and federal regulations.

Bachelor's degree in relevant field (or equivalent)

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

 

Work Location

IUPUI Campus Indianapolis, Indiana

This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
