Hi Michelle

If I may be so bold on a Friday, this sounds to me more like a grift than a grant. If I were in your shoes, I might step away.

Subject: [RESADM-L] Question on Industry Grant and Budget

This message was sent securely using Zix®

Full disclosure -- industry grant compliance is not my area of expertise so I'm reaching out to the collective think-tank.

An industry grant (not human subjects) research study includes the loan of equipment to complete the work being conducted (that seems fine because of the novelty of the science) but the equipment requires special cartridges which they are charging us for (it's included within the budget). They are required for experimentation and not commercially available outside this company.

So for easy math -- lets say the grant is $100,000. But they are charging $60,000 for the cartridges, so it really is $40,000 they are giving. The $40,000 covers the rest of the expenses.

Has anybody had this experience and is this common/normal when dealing with industry grants? Is there anything else I should be considering?

Thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge!!

Michelle
