Purpose and Scope of the Job
The purpose of the Research Administrator position is to facilitate the development, organization, and submission of proposals for external research funding for academic units as assigned. The scope of the position includes working closely with researchers on all aspects of proposal development, from matching faculty expertise with funding opportunities to proposal submission, and the Research Administrator is directly responsible for budgetary and administrative compliance on proposals. 

The Research Administrator will assist faculty in obtaining external grants and contracts to support RIT’s growth as a student-centered research university as described in the Institute strategic plan.  This involves developing a close working relationship with faculty and staff at RIT. Outside of RIT, the Research Administrator will develop deep knowledge of funding agencies and sponsors, particularly those that support basic scientific research and STEM education, and maintain positive working relationships with them. The Research Administrator reports to the Director of Sponsored Research Services.

Purpose and Scope of the Job

The purpose of the Senior Research Administrator (SRA) is to provide leadership and strategic support to the colleges and units of Rochester Institute of Technology as it expands its program of research.  This person will facilitate the submission for sponsored project funding at Rochester Institute of Technology.  S/he will work intensively with faculty and staff to facilitate the preparation, review, and approval of proposals for submission.  S/he will collaborate in a customized professional development program, geared to the specific needs of new and inexperienced principal investigators.  S/he will assist faculty in identifying appropriate funding opportunities and guide them in developing competitive proposals.  S/he will also ensure that the units they support comply with governing regulations and institute policies with regard to sponsored research. 

The SRA will support the design and implementation of an infrastructure to support a multi-million dollar research agenda that incorporates the work of major research centers. 

The position involves developing a close working relationship with faculty and staff, department heads, directors, deans, and vice presidents across multiple colleges and divisions at RIT. Outside of RIT, the SRA will facilitate positive working relationships with funding agencies and colleagues at other colleges and universities (both domestic and foreign).  The SRA will also be responsible for developing and delivering relevant training and education relating to proposal development and research administration.
