I am updating our biosketchs again (and again and again) and came across this:

*Do I Need To Provide All or Just Current Positions and Scientific Appointments on My Biosketch?

By NIH Staff

Posted January 31, 2022

In biosketch section B. Positions, Scientific Appointments, and Honors you must list in reverse chronological order all current positions and scientific appointments both domestic and foreign, including affiliations with foreign entities or governments. This includes titled academic, professional, or institutional appointments whether or not remuneration is received, and whether full-time, part-time, or voluntary (including adjunct, visiting, or honorary). You are not required to list previous positions or other historical information.

High school students and undergraduates may choose to include previous positions.

If not currently located at the applicant organization, include the expected position at the applicant organization and the expected start date.

For more frequently asked questions on biosketches, see our FAQ page.

Do I Need To Provide All or Just Current Positions and Scientific Appointments on My Biosketch? – NIH Extramural Nexus

Based on the last sentence (highlighted), does this mean we can list previous positions and scientific appointments, but they are not required?

I am so confused on what they want. The sample we are supposed to follow still has them listed. I certainly do not want one of my faculty’s biosketch to cause any application to be withdrawn due to an inappropriate format as noted below, but when they keep changing the format, or are not clear on the format, sadly it could happen.

*Beginning with applications submitted on or after January 25, 2022, failure to follow the appropriate Biosketch format may cause NIH to withdraw your application from consideration.

Best, Felicia
