UTSA's two Research Service Centers (RSCs) serve as the centralized "front line" pre-award service units for faculty and staff, providing services/support and subject matter expertise for proposal (grant, contract, other sponsored project) preparation, packaging, review and submission.

 

The RSC staff also provide support with award negotiation (in coordination with the Office of Contracts & Industry Agreements), preparation and "hand-off" to Post Award Administration (PAA) and Grants & Contracts Financial Services (GCFS) units for account set-up.

Purpose of Position
Function: To provide support for highly complex grants and contracts pre-award administration activities in the Research Service Center.

Scope: Responsible for providing administrative support to Principal Investigators (PIs) in the development and submission of basic and intermediate grant/contract proposals, and in preparation of pre-award documents for transition to award.

Essential Job Functions (see posting for full detail)

 

  1. Maintains current working knowledge of all applicable institutional, state, federal and other sponsor policy/guidelines that pertain to the submission and administration of sponsored projects
  2. Reviews and analyzes, then develops checklist/guidance based on sponsor solicitation for internal or external funding opportunities
  3. Provides templates/guidance to PIs for development of non-technical proposal components (i.e., biosketch, budget justification, data management plan, facilities and other resources
  4. Provides direct assistance with budget development/drafting and  completion of sponsor and internal forms
  5. Reviews draft proposal documents for sponsor compliance and provides feedback for revision
  6. Reviews proposal components to identify potential cost sharing and other internal commitments, space requirements, export control activities, or faculty effort commitments and ensures that all applicable documentation is completed
  7. Assists PIs with gathering required pre-award compliance and/or legal documentation, as needed
  8. Assists PIs with preparing proposals in sponsor websites or other electronic systems, and electronic routing of proposals for internal approvals prior to submission
  9. May support or assist other Pre-Award Administrators in the preparation of proposals
  10. May serve as technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas
  11. Problem-solves frequently, requires analysis of unique issues/problems without precedent and/or structure
  12. Works on proposals that often require project management and coordination among multiple organizations, offices.
  13.  Performs other duties as assigned.
