Hi,

How do you handle cost of living adjustments for non-key personnel on NIH projects?  If their salary was listed in the budget at $100,000 for each year, then they receive a salary increase, do you charge the project a maximum of $100,000 X their effort, or do you charge the project their new rate, say $105,000 X their effort?  If we were to charge the higher salary,  we would spend the budgeted amount quicker and could potentially require a rebudget.  My question is truly about do you only charge the salary amount that was listed in the budget, or their actual salary?  What if personnel changes and the new person makes more that the person who was originally in the budget.

*We typically do not submit a budget with COLA*

Regards,

Claudia
