I’d like help on clarifying the Fellow’s stipend level as described on page 24 of the GAANN RFP.

I am trying to figure out how much of the Fellow’s stipend would be paid by the grant and how much by the institution and if the institutional contribution is also the required 25% match.

According to the RPF a fellow’s stipend for academic year 2021-22 is based on NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program of $34,000 per fellow, but adjusted accordingly not to exceed the student’s demonstrated need. I am thinking that $34,000 would be funds from the grant award. Is this correct?

The RFP indicates that the Institutional Payment is estimated at $16,730 per fellow. An institutional match is also required of 25%. Is this Institutional Payment of $16,730 considered the match or is the match an additional 25%?

NSF GRFP also mentions a cost of education allowance of $12,000 to the institution.  webpage https://www.nsfgrfp.org

“The NSF GRFP recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported STEM disciplines who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees at accredited US institutions. The five-year fellowship includes three years of financial support including an annual stipend of $34,000 and a cost of education allowance of $12,000 to the institution.”

Does $12,000 mentioned on NSF GRPF apply to the GAANN? If so, does the $12,000 from GAANN go to the institution or also to the fellow?

It appear the funds are to be used to pay fellow stipends toward tuition and education expenses. Would the grant also permit funding for the PI to manage the grant and include Indirect Cost?

Appreciate your help.

Eileen
