IU, like many large academic research universities, I believe, does not require PIs or faculty to meet any RCR requirements. We strictly enforce NSF requirements and work with PIs and research officers to help them meet RCR requirements under NIH funding.
As for the question, should we? I don’t know exactly but I suspect it would be quite difficult to get such a requirement instituted.

Subject: [External] [RESADM-L] Responsible Conduct of Research Training-NSF
This message was sent from a non-IU address. Please exercise caution when clicking links or opening attachments from external sources.
Greetings all!
I’d like to pick your brains about RCR training requirements, generally, but also specifically as they relate to NSF.
I know that researchers and institutions are required to train undergrads, grad students and postdocs working on NSF projects in the responsible conduct of research. I’m trying to recall/find information on whether that training requirement also specifically applies to PIs and senior personnel as well on the NSF project. It makes sense that they also need some training/expertise if they are going to help shape the students’ knowledge, of course.
Do you require faculty to take RCR training (ie, CITI) if they are working on an NSF or other Federally funded project? Do you have a policy requiring faculty who do conduct sponsored research to take the training?
Thanks!
Regards,
Pam
