Business Unit: Smithsonian Institution’s Office of Sponsored Projects
Location: Arlington, VA (near Crystal City metro)
Summary:
The Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) at the Smithsonian Institution seeks an experienced, results-oriented Grants and Contracts Financial Analyst to provide technical assistance on all aspects of post award sponsored projects management. This position will
support a diverse portfolio of government and private funding awards for research programs and projects. The incumbent will serve as primary financial contact for investigators and fund managers, and acts as liaison to sponsors regarding grant and contract
financial matters.
Please note, this is NOT a Federal position.
Major Responsibilities:
- Reviews critical award terms to setup sponsored project accounts and budgets in the financial system.
- Reviews and monitors grant and contract financial data for validity and allowability of charges, in compliance with Smithsonian policies, sponsor terms and conditions, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), and
other applicable federal rules and regulations.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for assigned portfolio and provides guidance and timely responses to principal investigators, fund managers and other central offices in the administration of post
award activities on sponsored projects.
- Monitors financial report due dates, prepares and submits financial reports for federal, other governmental and private sponsored awards.
- Prepares and submits accurate and timely payment requests, invoices and letter of credit drawdowns, as defined by the terms of sponsored agreements.
- Monitors cash position with various award types and proactively addresses collection issues to avoid revenue losses.
- Assists in developing training materials and provides training on multi-faceted issues to assist principal investigators, fund managers and others to properly manage post award activities on sponsored projects.
Qualification Requirements:
- At least 1 year of accounting experience with monitoring financial aspects of grants and contracts is preferred
- Degree in Finance is preferred
- Knowledge of Uniform Administrative Requirements, cost principles, and Audit requirements for Federal Awards (2 CFR 200) is preferred
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and be detail oriented
- Strong organizational, coordination and prioritization skills
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft ERP
- Knowledge of audit, indirect cost proposal process, and Federal Acquisition Regulations
- Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA) or Certified Research Administrator (CRA) credential
