Job Summary/Description

Under general supervision, performs professional level accounting and related work of moderate difficulty; prepares and maintains post-grant award accounting.

Typical Duties/Job Duties

1. Performs grant related post award functions, including budget and accounting transactions; periodic invoicing, financial reporting, and associated communication with faculty, staff, and others.
2. Assesses needs and resolves issues of the principal investigator related to grants accounting.
3. Reviews and prepares requests for journal voucher entries; enters adjustments into the accounting system.
4. Assists with compilation of the annual financial report for the University.
5. Supports the sponsored programs department in education and training of principal investigators and administrators.
6. Reconciles certain university accounts and assists other departments with reconciliations.
7. Communicates with faculty, staff, and others in the course of performing work or coordination tasks.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of basic general ledger accounting practices and procedures;
Knowledge of State & Federal financial reporting requirements and guidelines;
Knowledge of fund accounting;
Knowledge of the operation of personal computers and the use of word processing and spreadsheet software with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel;
Ability to perform mathematical calculations and accounting entries in an accurate manner;
Ability to reconcile financial or budget records;
Ability to organize and complete tasks in an accurate and timely manner;
Ability to perform work requiring accuracy and attention to detail;
Ability to operate a variety of office equipment;
Skilled in oral and written communication; listening skills, and interpersonal relations;
Skilled in problem solving;
Skilled in a commitment to customer service; Skilled in accounting and financial systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field with at least 12 semester hours in accounting from an accredited college or university. Equivalent combination of relevant education or experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

One to three years of professional accounting experience preferred.
