We allow a Post Doc to serve as PI once we have gotten the ok from their Dean and the VP of Research.
Thank you.

Subject: Re: [RESADM-L] Post Docs as PI?
The answer is, of course, ‘it depends.’ If it is an opportunity that only a post doc can apply for, then they are named as PI in our system and we record a faculty member as their mentor. If the post doc wishes
to serve as a PI on a proposal that does not have that funding restriction, then they would have to go through the institutional PI exception process and get approval to submit.
Sincerely,
Sherie

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [RESADM-L] Post Docs as PI?
Hi all,
Just wondering if any of your institution’s policies allow Post Docs to be named as PI within your internal system? If so, is a letter from the Dean/chair of the department required, or is it allowed as a matter of course?
I’d appreciate hearing your policies.
Thanks!
