Manager, Research Administration Shared Services

Under the direction of the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Shared Services, the research administration (RA) shared services Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations and administrative management of staff performing department/unit pre- and post-award activities for sponsored project research portfolios for their assigned units. The Research Administration Manager will interact with the AVP of Shared Services, other unit managers, Directors of pre- and post-award central offices, Principal Investigators, and Directors of Administration and Finance of units for which the RA shared service unit provides support, and external sponsors.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists the AVP of Shared Services with recruiting, training, supervision, and evaluation of assigned staff.
• Provides coaching/mentoring of staff to ensure appropriate professional development.
• Assigns and reviews work across the team.
• Monitors compliance with agency and institutional regulations regarding reporting.
• Assists the AVP of Shared Services with developing service level agreements; tracks metrics to monitor efficiency of operations; generates reports to inform the need for operational adjustments and improvements.
• Assesses the team’s ability to maintain high-quality, value-added services in response to the growth of MSM’s grant and contract activities, while implementing efficiencies and developing creative approaches where necessary to address increases in workload volume or complexity.
• Works with stakeholders to address challenges or issues that arise and seeks the involvement of the AVP of Shared Services, as necessary.
• Provides a set of consistent and standardized reports to AVP of Shared Services, other unit leaders, and/or external funding agencies on a regular basis.

Pre-Award
• Facilitates faculty efforts in their pursuit of externally sponsored instructional, research and public service programs by providing pre-award administrative assistance with applications to external agencies for project funding.
• Develops and integrates strategies aligned with the overall strategic plans for the effective management and leadership of the staff.
• Reviews all modifications to Notice of Awards (NOA), and revisions in implementation schedules and negotiates with funding agency representatives concerning these matters.

Post-Award
• Ensures all grant and contract awards are properly setup in the institution’s financial accounting system.
• Manages requests from principal investigators for no cost extensions, carryover, re-budgeting, changes in scope and other changes to awards in compliance with sponsor guidelines.
• Supervises the reconciliation and projection of award finances, and adjustments or corrections to award budgets and expenses.
• Manages the submission of financial reports and at the end of an award, and ensures all financial requirements have been met.
• Communicates interim and final reporting deadlines to principal investigators and unit leaders.
• Ensures that shared service personnel complete all paperwork related to the establishment of subrecipient contracts.

 

Minimum Qualifications:         

 

 

 

Salary Range - $65,000 - $90,000
