Job Summary                          

Provides assistance to Principal Investigators in the preparation and award management of complex research sponsored projects for the College of Nursing and Health Innovation, including the Department of Kinesiology.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Pre-Award

Conducts detail content/technical review of complex grant applications. Prepare final proposal documents to upload for online submissions to Grants.gov and other funding agencies. Provide recommendations (edited drafts) to faculty regarding proposal reviews. Interprets compliance regulations from agency sponsors and UTA policy and procedures. Advise faculty of allowable and unallowable costs. Develop proposal budgets and narrative justification. Insure regulatory compliance, accuracy, completeness prior to submitting proposals to the Office of Research Administration (ORA) or directly to sponsors with approval from (ORA). Conduct one-on-one meetings with faculty regarding new grant developments. Participate in group meetings with CONHI faculty and in collaboration with other faculty from UTA colleges on research grants. Distribute funding opportunity announcements to faculty for potential grant submissions. Maintains a central file and database of all pre-award submissions for the CONHI. Prepare annual grant reports regarding submissions and additional reports by special request. Serves as liaison between the CONHI faculty and the Office of Pre- Award a division within the Research Administration regarding grant submissions.

 

Post-Award

Provide guidance to principle investigators regarding new grant implementation processes and procedures. Interprets to new principle investigators each component of the Notice of Award/contract terms and conditions. Interprets programmatic and fiscal compliance requirements. Insure principle investigators comply with all sponsor reporting deadlines. Review programmatic reports to insure compliance prior to submission to sponsors by working with faculty to insure reports are complete and accurate. Participate in programmatic/technical assistance webinars provided by grant sponsors to stay abreast of current compliance and reporting requirements. Maintain a central file and database of all active grant awards for the CONHI. Serves as a resource in providing guidance on allowable and unallowable costs once grants are awarded. Prepare written prior approval requests on behalf of principal investigators for submission to the agency program officers (i.e., no cost extension, budget transfer, scope of work, key personnel change, etc.). Work directly with agency program officers regarding obtaining decisions and other programmatic issues for resolution. Review and process close-out documents to comply with program regulations. In concert with the Office of Research Administration, provide contract review and execution for awards within the CONHI. Monitor grant budgets in regards to exceeding the amount awarded within a given budget period and under-spent budgets to request for no-cost extensions. In concert with the Office of Grants Accounting, provides assistance regarding financial report submissions. Provide impromptu services to agency program officers and CONHI faculty/staff at their request at any given time. Provide guidance and resolution to principle investigators regarding complex matters. Provide assistance in negotiation, administration and termination of contracts and grants. Serves as liaison between the CONHI faculty and the Office of Post-Award a division within the Research Administration regarding new grant awards.

 

Required Qualifications         

Bachelor’s degree in business or management with two (2+) years of sponsored program experience in higher education, including experience in grants accounting.

 

Preferred Qualifications         

Bachelor’s degree in Business or Management with four or more years of sponsored program experience in higher education, specializing in local, state, federal and private programs in education and research grants combined. Experience with grant compliance and regulatory requirements related to programmatic and financial management of sponsored programs

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

          Demonstrated managerial and organizational skills required.

          Experience in proof-reading and editing grant proposals and programmatic reports, requiring attention to detail for accuracy.

          A familiarity with federal rules and regulations as pertains to the administration of higher education grants desirable.

          Experience in budget development and management, including personnel time and effort to sponsored programs.

          Ability to coordinate overlapping projects and deadlines required.

          Strong analytical skills and experience with all Microsoft Office Suite applications and databases required.

          Ability to work with minimal supervision required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
