Hi Beverly,

NSF requires that institutions that receive NSF funding for science and engineering research or education have an RCR program in place for undergraduates, graduates, and post-docs that are participating in the research. We require REU students to complete RCR training because our federal NSF REU grant funds the program and their stipend/travel/subsistence funds come from that grant. None of our participating students are ours either, but in our case it is because we a research non-profit institution and not an institution of higher education.

Thanks,
Amanda

Hi all –

What’s the general consensus on enforcing the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) requirement for REU students? We understand that it certainly has benefit to encourage the training, however we would like to determine the actual requirement for these students. If it’s a requirement, since a lot of these students are not ‘ours’ per se I’m not sure what our vendor’s policy would be on access to the training module by non-KSU students.

Any input/experience appreciated – thanks.
