Position Summary:
The Center for Scholarly & Creative Excellence (CSCE), GVSU’s central research-administration office, seeks a dynamic, service-oriented research-administration professional to
fill this brand-new, early-career position. The position is comprised of three main areas of responsibility: (1) new project intake and assessment, (2) coordination and support of process-improvement initiatives, and (3) electronic research administration
(eRA) system support, coordination, and management.
Under the direct oversight of the Vice Provost for Research Administration, the successful candidate will join a team of established research-administration personnel in research
compliance, sponsored programs, technology commercialization, and undergraduate research in the service of a vibrant and growing portfolio of research activity.

Required Qualifications and Education:

Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
-
Background in and general understanding of the functions and purpose of Research Administration
-
Demonstrated experience working with databases (e.g., MS Access) to create and generate reports
-
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with faculty and staff members, supervisors, job contacts, and students
-
Strong written communication skills
-
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in groups
-
Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple tasks; position requires the management and analysis of multiple, complex assignments from different areas at any given time
-
Willingness to be flexible with work schedule to accommodate special events

Demonstrated experience in customer-service delivery
-
Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives

Demonstrated experience in a position that required the use of sound judgment and creativity to solve problems and perform well in ambiguous situations
Preferred Qualifications and Education:

Master’s Degree in research administration or related field of study
-
Basic understanding of research and/or other types of sponsored agreements (contracts)
-
Demonstrated experience using eRA systems (e.g., CITI, Epigeum, IRBManager, InfoEd, Kuali Coeus, Cayuse Research Suite,
Visual Compliance, etc.)
-
Demonstrated experience with workflow software packages (e.g., MS Visio)
-
Advanced skills in MS Access and Excel
-
Technical expertise in database utilization and data visualization
-
Experience supporting administrative (especially research-administration) functions in a large college or university setting
Responsibilities – Essential Functions:

Serves as the intake coordinator for all new projects submitted to Research Administration
-
Documents, reviews, receipts, and triages new project requests to the appropriate research-administration offices (Office of Sponsored Programs, Office of Research Compliance & Integrity, Technology
Commercialization Office, High Performance Computing, and the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship)
-
Supports and coordinates data- and record-retention activities for the research-administration offices

Serves as administrator and data manager for all eRA systems, including Cayuse 424, IRB Manager, Epigeum, Visual Compliance, My Apps, Banner, OnBase,
and Microsoft Access (database)
-
Provides high-level business process analysis and leadership for eRA systems
-
Documents business requirements and translates them into functional system-design specifications
-
Coordinates with appropriate research-administration team members to test and deploy new system modules and enhancements as they are developed or adopted
-
Maintains and maximizes the value and inter-connectivity of all eRA systems
-
Develops a library of standard reports and designs ad hoc reports as requested by users. Serves as primary end-user support contact
-
Ascertains user needs and campus reporting requirements for all eRA systems, including operational metrics
-
Devises solutions to intra-system reporting needs
-
Assists in the development of data entry and maintenance protocols and service metrics
-
Ensures data integrity and accountability within the eRA systems of record
-
Serves as a key liaison between GVSU Information Technology (IT) and research-administration units for all eRA systems
-
Manages and maintains eRA systems by updating user roles and maintenance tables
-
Monitors and plans implementation of new software releases and new modules
-
Troubleshoots system issues and resolves them in collaboration with eRA systems vendors and GVSU IT
-
Serves as the lead contact between CSCE and all eRA systems vendors
-
Provides internal and external training and tech support for all eRA systems utilized within the research-administration community
-
Develops user manuals and training materials and coordinates and provides campus-wide training on the systems
-
Develops and maintains web-based dashboards for self-service data needs of the GVSU research administration community

Participates in process-improvement initiatives

Develops and maintains written procedures and process flows that describe and formally document eRA functions

Coordinates process-improvement activities

Salary:
