NIU is hiring a Grants and Contracts Associate in our Sponsored Programs Office. This position reports to the Associate Director for Award Support.
Job Summary:
The office of Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) in the Division of Research and Innovation Partnerships is seeking a Grants and Contracts
Associate to provide financial and non-financial post award support to faculty and staff. The Associate will join a dynamic team of pre and post award research administrators working across institutional units and with a variety of sponsoring agencies.

Northern Illinois University (NIU) is a public research university located 65 miles west of downtown Chicago and 45 miles south of Rockford.
The university is classified as a Carnegie research high university, with an annual sponsored funding portfolio of $25 million. NIU’s primary federal funders include the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy and National Laboratories, and Department
of Education. SPA is a combined pre and post award office providing support to faculty and staff throughout the funding lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities / Duties:
This position will be responsible for the ongoing fiscal and non-fiscal administration of all grants, contracts, and all other types of sponsored
projects. May include, but is not limited to, budgeting and accounting of individual sponsored awards, fiscal and award management including advising faculty and staff about terms and conditions and university processes, cash management and agency drawdowns,
setting up new awards, subrecipient monitoring, managing project changes, interacting with internal and external auditors, and participating in policy and procedure development and dissemination of sponsored program information.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:
1.
Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, economics or a field related to the position.
Must demonstrate at least one year of experience working with budgets, spreadsheets, and financial processes in an office
setting.
Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in a field related to the position
·
CPA, CRA, or CFRA
·
Experience working in research administration in a higher education setting
·
Post award grants experience including financial reporting and cost accounting
·
Knowledge of PeopleSoft, InfoEd, OnBase
·
Experience with data analytics and database reporting
