Hi,

For now, no panel or presentation is planned. But, I’d be happy to compile information from the responses I receive.

Please answer as many of my questions, and share, as much you choose. Any response is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Kim

Oh, this would be a wonderful resource to share.  Will this be a presentation or a Panel at a National meeting soon?  Or is something already out there?

Subject: [RESADM-L] Orientation, Onboarding and Training Practices for Research Administrators at Your Institution

Hi All,

I’m working on processes for onboarding and training research administrators at Emory University and would love to hear from you regarding practices at your institutions.

What does your institution do? What works? What doesn’t work as well as it might? What do you wish was done – or done differently?

Please share:

Orientation

·         Please describe any orientation practices for those newly hired to research administration roles at your institution.

·         Are there information sessions, orientation classes, etc. geared specifically towards research administrators?

Meetings

·         Does your institution hold regular meetings for research administrators (professional development, informational, social, etc.)?

·         If so, how often are the meetings? How and by whom are the meetings organized?

·         Are these meetings open to all research administrators, or geared toward particular units, roles, etc.

Training

·         Describe any research administration training offered by your institution.

·         Are trainings online, classroom, hands-on?

·         Are trainings regularly offered, or ad hoc, on- the-job, etc?

·         Is training provided for all skill levels (entry-level to ongoing training for experienced administrators)?

·         Is training provided to address changes to research administration policy and practices, such as NIH FORMS-E; NIH Clinical Trial requirements, etc.?

List servs and Websites

  • Do listservs or websites dedicated to research administration and research administrators exist at your institution?
  • If so, please describe them.
  • Are research administration staff automatically enrolled in the list servs?

IT Systems

  • Describe the process to obtain access to your institution’s internal IT systems related to research administration.
  • Is there a centralized website, IT unit, etc. dedicated to provide access or access information to research administrators?

Thanks for your help.

Best,

Kim
