PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Manage sponsored program accounts from setup of the account in the university’s accounting system through award closeout.
The Contract, Grant and Research Accounting Manager is responsible for the operations of post-award administration and related accounting duties: serves as the appropriate principal investigator’s contact for grants and
contract accounting functions. Communicates effectively with all levels of the University and outside constituents with a strong focus on customer service.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

In accordance with the University's accounting policies and procedures and compliance with sponsor and award terms and conditions:
o
Review research proposals for private and governmental entities
o
Establish new funded awards and internal funded research accounts in the general ledger system
o
Management of the:
§
Set up of new accounts with budget in the accounting system
§
Expenditures on awards, including purchasing, expenses and payables
§
Time and effort reporting expenditures, allocations and reporting
§
Payroll transactions, including summer salary, overload pay and position authorizations
§
Receivables on all awards, including invoicing and aging balances
§
Fringe and indirect costs and allocations on all awards
§
Drawdown requests from governmental agencies

Maintain accurate and current record keeping on current funding for reporting and tracking purposes

Provide timely accounting support to the Office of Sponsored Projects, Principal Investigators and University departments as requested
·
Provide training to Principal Investigators and University departments as needed
·
Maintain grant accounting software, including role definitions and access
·
Prepare timely financial reports and surveys for various governmental agencies
·
Assist in year-end audit
·
Prepare various financial reports including any required external closeout reports for awards with governmental agencies and internal reports for Principal Investigators

Assist with Facilities and Administration Proposals
·
Assist in tracking the University’s fixed assets inventory
·
Provide addition support as required by the Controller
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
·
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
·
Five years of experience in contract or grants accounting
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
·
Experience with sponsored research
·
Working knowledge of regulatory requirements regarding post-award financial research
·
Ability to problem solve and multi-task in a deadline-driven environment
·
Experience with enterprise financial software
·
Expertise in Excel
·
Strong verbal and written communication skills,
·
Ability to manage develop and conduct training
