Van Andel Research Institute’s Office of Sponsored Research is seeking to hire a full-time Sponsored Research Administrator. Van Andel Research Institute (VARI), a leading independent biomedical research facility located in Grand Rapids,
MI, is dedicated to determining the epigenetic, genetic, molecular and cellular origins of cancer, Parkinson’s and other diseases, and translating those findings into effective therapies. The Institute is home to more than 300 scientists and support staff
that work in on-site laboratories and in collaborative partnerships that span the globe.
As a key member of the OSR team, this individual will administer pre-award and post-award aspects of a complex portfolio for interdisciplinary faculty. Sponsors include, but are not limited to: NIH, DOD, NSF, industry and private funding
agencies.
In this role, the successful candidate will report directly to the Director of Sponsored Research and be responsible for pre-award and select post-award administration of assigned sponsored programs/projects submitted to and awarded from
federal, state and local government, private funding agencies, pass-thru subawards, internal competitions, and industry sponsored research agreements; accepts ownership for providing cohesiveness for all extramural activity for faculty and constituents assigned;
apply specialized knowledge and interpret rules, regulations, procedures and policies; exercise good judgment with increasing independence and discretion in the development and submission of proposals working in conjunction with eligible faculty, investigators,
postdoctoral fellows, administrators, managers and staff; exercise proficiency and provide support in electronic research administration (eRA) systems and processes associated with sponsored programs environment.
Sponsored Research Administrators work independently in a small and cohesive team environment, and will be expected to take on special projects to support the team and Institute. Candidate will provide an outstanding level of customer service
to a broad customer base on a wide range of complex pre-award and post-award, sponsored and compliance issues. This position will use a high degree of judgment and problem solving skills to communicate and apply Institute and sponsor guidelines throughout
the sponsored project life cycle. The individual will be working closely with faculty and staff scientists, operations departments and Institute administration requiring excellent written and verbal communication skills.
