ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR – OFFICE OF RESEARCH ADMINISTRATION
NEW YORK MEDICAL COLLEGE
Position Description
The Associate Director reports to and works with the Director in the management of research at New York Medical College (NYMC), including oversight of grants and contracts, technology transfer, conflict of
interest, policy development, outreach, and training.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Office of Research Administration (ORA) Policies and Procedures: (15%)
Assists Director in review, update, and development of policies and procedures for ORA functions, with emphasis on intellectual property and contract administration.
Oversees the ORA web site and other outreach to the NYMC research community, including campus, departmental, and one-on-one training related to ORA policies and procedures.
2. Contracts Administration: (30-50%)
Reviews, negotiates and/or drafts agreements, including master agreements, confidentiality agreements (CDAs), subawards, and other agreements, in collaboration with faculty, Finance department,
legal advisors, and Westchester Medical Center research office on behalf of NYMC. Identifies and resolves risks in contractual terms and conditions not conforming to NYMC policy or governing regulations. Works closely with investigators to manage industry
collaborations.
3. Technology Transfer: (30-50%)
Reviews, negotiates and/or drafts material transfer agreements (MTAs) in collaboration with faculty researchers and academic/industry collaborators.
Processes invention disclosures of faculty researchers including coordination of initial assessment and liaison with patent counsel.
Organizes records for the NYMC IP portfolio, reporting to leadership and on IP matters, and developing and maintaining budgets for IP protection.
4. Assumes responsibilities in other ORA areas (e.g. grants management) as required. (5%)
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree.
•4 years of successful experience in research administration, technology transfer, and/or contract management. This should include experience working in a
university or research environment and/or familiarity with university research policies and procedures.
•Experience reviewing and negotiating agreements for technology transfer and/or industry-sponsored research.
•Capability and desire to work independently and take initiative in a multifaceted position.
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills leading to effective relationships with faculty and researchers from a variety of disciplines.
Desirable Qualifications:
•
Advanced degree.
•
Certified Licensing Professional and/or Certified Research Administrator.
•Knowledge of the legal and technical issues affecting protection, use and exploitation of such intellectual property.
