I don't see how that would work. As you say, the pay should be the proportionate amount of IBS relative to the effort.

Hello all,

I am fairly certain that I know how the responses are going to go in this scenario, but I still want to put it out there for confirmation.

A relatively new PI has asked how she can compensate other faculty equally who are working on the project, doing the same amount of work.  The issue being that there are junior faculty and senior faculty.  I have maintained that it must be consistent with their IBS, and based on the level of effort on the project.  However because the junior faculties pay is not at the same level of their senior colleague, they will receive less.  She is wanting to pay a set amount to each for the same amount of work.  The amount is nominal, and would not be higher than either faculty’s IBS for the amount of work.  Is there a way to make this work?

To complicate this further, our faculty are on a 9 month contract, this work is over the summer, however a couple of these faculty are on 12 month FY appointments, so of course their pay would be replacement pay.

I appreciate your time in responding.

Thanks,
Linda
