As long as the conference itself still pertains to the second grant that will support the travel expense, there's no issue in splitting the charges (also assuming the sponsor of the other grant allows the charge itself in the first place). Think of it another way....would the PI attend the conference using the funds from the second grant even if he didn't have a presentation? While he's planning to present the results from the terming grant, these conferences can benefit the PI in multiple ways.

Good Morning,

I have a PI who has an NIH award that ends this month but he wants to charge an abstract submission fee to the project for a conference in November.  The abstract and work being presented at the conference is the data from the project but the actual conference is outside the project period.  Is it still reasonable to charge the submission fee to one project and then the rest of the travel for the conference to another?

Has anyone ever had a similar situation?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Katie
