We do the same. Advisors also need to have CITI certification.

Hi Megan -

At MSU, we do require any students conducting research (and submitting an IRB application) to have a faculty advisor who also signs off on the protocol submission form.

Hope this helps!

Scott

Subject: [RESADM-L] IRB Question

CROSS POSTED

Hi all,

Those with IRB responsibilities:

-- What is your position/policy on students (undergrads or grads) as PIs?

-- If you allow students to be PIs, must they have a faculty advisor as a co-PI?

-- Do you require that the faculty advisor take responsibility for ensuring compliance with 45 CFR 46? Or do you trust that students can handle this enormous responsibility on behalf of your institution (hmmm. . . does that sentence give away my feelings on the issue? Ha!)

Thanks,

--
