Good morning,

We have a PI who is transferring institutions.  Our leadership has agreed to buyout 25% of their time so they may continue some of their research here.  The PI in question would like to continue some existing projects here as part of their 25% research time buy out.  It is my understanding in discussions of transition that the PI will be a full time employee at the new institution.  This is not a scenario I have seen yet.

Is this something any of you have seen within your research communities?  Further, would the PI in question be able to submit proposals through Geisinger for funding if the PI does not have an appointment and we are simply buying out time?

I welcome conversation offline if you would like and would be happy to provide any additional information if that is helpful.

Thank you!

Shannon
