Hi, Val.  East Carolina University recently added the Engineering Services NAICS to our SAM profile in order to compete for a particular project.  The Office of Sponsored Programs manages the SAM profile.  We follow our state law re: competition.  Including opportunities for student participation, or, if possible, an educational focus, in these projects goes a long way toward diluting any perception of commercial competition.

Subject: [RESADM-L] NAICS code

Greetings!!  Quick question…the NAICS code for Universities is 611310.  How many of you have a secondary or tertiary code?  We are getting inquiries about some BOA’s that are not available to us unless we have also registered code 541330, for example, which is Engineering Services.

For those that do have a secondary code, how far up the chain of command was the decision made to add codes?

And finally, if you have a secondary code like Engineering Services, how do you balance that with the expectation that the University will not compete with the private sector in your community?

I would appreciate any input or advice!!

THANKS!
