The Office of Sponsored Programs at the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture seeks a full-time Grants Coordinator to provide pre-award support and assistance to faculty and staff
in the preparation of applications for external funding. Our office strives to give exceptional service to faculty and staff members applying for funding, and we are located in Knoxville - in the heart of beautiful (and affordable) East Tennessee.
POSITION: Coordinator II, Grants Coordinator
DESCRIPTION: The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) at the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture seeks a full-time Grants Coordinator to provide pre-award support and assistance to faculty and staff in the preparation of applications for external
funding. OSP strives to provide the highest quality of support to faculty, staff, and research administrators by facilitating proposal preparation and submission; reviewing, negotiating and accepting contracts; and managing awards. In addition, OSP ensures
compliance with federal and state laws and UT policies, to clarify submission procedures and processing of awards for external sponsored program funds and to ensure a uniform administrative process. Pay grade 40. Salary DOE&Q - Full Time
OSP is committed to the professional development of its team and supports and encourages attendance to NCURA, SRA and other member organizations pertinent to the research administration field.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position provides pre-award support and assistance to departmental faculty and staff, including preparation of proposal forms, budget development, assembly of proposal packages, and submission. Coordinator works directly with faculty and staff to ensure compliance
of proposal with University and sponsor policies as well as program solicitations. In addition, position assists with budget revisions, no cost extensions account requests and other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree and
• Minimum of three years’ work experience related to research administration/sponsored programs or Master’s degree and two years’ work experience related to research administration/sponsored programs

• Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with personnel at all levels
• Excellent interpersonal skills and work individually and in a team environment under stressful and time-sensitive conditions
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet time-sensitive deadlines
• Ability to maintain a strong customer-service oriented environment
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
• Excellent command of the English language including excellent reading comprehension
• Ability to work collaboratively with others at various levels both within and outside the University
• Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Independent decision-making abilities
• Detail-oriented and have high level of initiative
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, in particular with Excel
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
• Working knowledge of relevant OMB circulars and Uniform Guidance
• Proficiency in interpreting federal regulations
• Extensive knowledge of federal regulations related to externally funded sponsored programs and the requirements of state, federal, private, and non-profit funding agencies
• Experience working in a central research office at a research university
• Proficient in using sponsor specific submission systems (Fastlane, grants.gov, NSPIRES, etc.)
• Thorough understanding of University policies and procedures
• Experience negotiating and reviewing Sponsored Programs contracts
• Prior supervisory experience
