University Program Specialist (Grants Officer) Position Summary: 

 

The East Carolina University Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is seeking a responsible individual to serve as a member of the pre-award team, which is charged with assisting faculty and staff in developing proposals for external funding from federal, state, municipal, non-profit, and for-profit entities to support research, instructional activities, and service programs.  In addition to final reviewing and submitting proposals on behalf of the institution, the Grants Officer also reviews and accepts grant agreements and negotiates contracts with sponsors.  He/she has primarily responsibility for ensuring the completeness and accuracy of project records in a paperless environment.  The Grants Officer works closely with the Offices of Grants & Contracts in administration of funded projects, Research Integrity & Compliance to ensure the ethical conduct of research, and Technology Transfer to protect the University's intellectual assets.  Additionally, he/she conducts outreach and training activities for ECU faculty, staff, and administration.

 

The Grants Officer will serve a diverse portfolio of academic units, with emphasis in medical and health related disciplines.  The professional nature of the position requires an individual capable of working collaboratively and constructively with faculty, staff, administration, and sponsors in a fast paced, service focused environment.  The individual must readily adapt to changing priorities driven by sponsor deadlines and regulations.   Problem solving skills, attention to detail, and workflow management proficiency are essential, as are excellent oral and written communication skills and a passion for learning and serving. 

 

Qualifications:  Minimum requirements are a Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree with a minimum of one year of experience in university research administration, proposal preparation, and/or grants management, or a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of related experience.  He/she will have knowledge of public and private sponsor agencies and organizations, their specific grant programs, and their application requirements and general knowledge of university research administration, including federal grants management requirements. The Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator (CPRA) credential from the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) is considered indicative of mastery of the body of knowledge of university research administration and is a plus.  Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe Pro and federal agency electronic systems is strongly preferred.  

 

Salary:  $31,888 - $56,000
