Usaspending.gov can be used to show R&D grants and contracts, keeping in mind that these are federal obligations as reported by federal agencies.  The numbers there for NIH will probably not sync exactly with the NIH award data, but they should be in the ballpark.  The data can be filtered on various fields, so perhaps there is a way to narrow the output down to hospitals, but I suspect you may have to do that manually.  Actual NIH award data, as opposed to obligations, can be searched, filtered and downloaded via the NIH RePORT website which provides for an organization type of “independent hospital,” which may be why the Children’s Hospital Association chose NIH awards as funding agency to use.  The RePORT data is also more up to date than what you will find on usaspending.gov.

Subject: [RESADM-L] funding rank lists

Good Afternoon,

Each year we receive the Children’s Hospital Association ranking of children’s hospitals and their primary university affiliated department of pediatrics.  The rank list is based exclusively on NIH funding.  We would like to find a source of a ranking list that includes all sources of federal funding (including CDC, USDA, etc).  Are there any rank lists that you are aware of that combine all sources of federal funding for hospital based or affiliated research?   Thanks so much.
