Up until last year we were using this process. At the beginning of the spring last year we switched to DocuSign for electronic routing and signature. While it was cost prohibitive to get an enterprise license for our entire university, we got seat licenses for the administrators in our office and we initiate the creation of the DocuSign envelopes and routing from our office. It has been a fairly good solution for us. We are a land grant university and have regional campuses and extension offices throughout the state. It has been very beneficial for our faculty in those remote locations for sure.

I have a question for those institutions which are still using paper forms for internal routing processes (we’re not the only ones left, are we?).  We currently do not have the capacity for true electronic signatures.   Do you accept typed or scanned images of signatures for your investigators and/or other signatories on internal routing forms?  We have some faculty who are off campus and it is a problem for them to sign, find a scanner and email to us (our current process).    The only concern we might have is if someone would allow another person to use the image and “sign” in his/her place.  Can we just add a statement that typed or scanned signatures can only be used by the person named, or something to that effect?   Any advice?  Thanks.
