General Summary

 

This position will be responsible for the management and oversight of the contractual and financial aspects of research studies for the Hematology Section.  This includes assistance to principal investigators in budget preparation and contract negotiation as well as post award management.  This position will work with the division administrator to establish and maintain payroll expenditures in compliance with award notices and contracts and will provide oversight in conjunction with principal investigators for grant financial management.  This position will also serve as a fund manager for the majority of hematology philanthropic funds at the direction of the Hematology Section Head.  This senior manager is expected to provide leadership to other research staff related to timely billing, invoicing and account reconciliation, and will be expected to make recommendations to investigators on process improvement to create and/or maintain practices and procedures such as maintenance of an awards database, review of requirements for performance reports or grant renewals and refinement of current accounting practices to enhance the research enterprise.

 

Essential Functions:

 

Assists principal investigators in managing existing external grants and contracts, as well as planning and execution of budgetary aspects of new research studies. 

Implements and interprets research and financial policies and procedures as it relates externally funded grants in conjunction with the Office of Sponsored Programs. 

Insures proper post awards account establishment in CMH system, including Lawson and payroll based on specific grant or contract language. 

Monitors funds on monthly basis, reconciling staff salaries, study invoices and ensuring financial compliance to reporting and funding agencies. 

Works with clinical research team to ensure proper invoices are generated in a timely fashion on all studies, offering training and guidance as appropriate.

Assists principal investigators with internal and external budget development for grant applications, including negotiation of budgets with sponsor. 

Works with the Office of Sponsored Programs to facilitate contract negotiations and execution.

Works with the Office of Sponsored Programs to insure timely submission of report documents to sponsors in compliance with award requirements 

Provides oversight of patient charges to fund accounts; verifies accuracy of all charges to fund accounts including salary and miscellaneous expenses.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

 

Certification as a Clinical Research Professional (SOCRA) or Clinical Research Coordinator (ACRP) helpful

 

Master’s degree in a related field with 1-3 years experience in clinical research, OR

 

Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years experience in clinical research financial management or research award administration.

 

Extensive experience in and facility with computer-based accounting systems, databases and word processing

 

Ability to  establish priorities and react promptly to the demands of multiple investigators with a large number of diverse research studies
