Hi,
We also leave it up to our Business Office. You make very good points. We just don’t have enough staff.

Subject: [RESADM-L] equipment purchased with federal funds
I was just reviewing a power point from FRA and it got me thinking: when you have a federal grant under which you purchase equipment, does your office handle property management, i.e.
make sure the serial number is recorded, that a bi-annual inventory is conducted, etc? We leave all this up to the business office but really have no control over whether the university is compliant in this area. Don’t get me wrong -- I am not doubting our
procurement and inventory offices, but our office accepted the terms of the award, and yet must rely on other university personnel not in our office to know the regs and comply with them. I guess I feel responsible for the university …
Do you track such purchases and follow up over the life of the property item to ensure it is managed correctly?
Thanks!
