Our other campuses can’t even access our website, nor can we share things among campuses, as someone at one of those other campuses pointed out to me just now… it’s really inhibiting, so I hope other institutions can convince their powers that be not to do it that way.

Charlie,
We are a college research office, not university. Our sponsored research office has nothing to do with this. This was a college decision.

I hope other institutions don't follow this practice by Ohio State. Our industry has had a history of sharing information for years. I understand the sponsored research leadership at Ohio State University has changed in the last year or so but this change is heading in the wrong direction.

I guess I understand, but it’s also sad. Countless times I have perused other OSP offices’ websites to see how other institutions policies, etc. It is the loss of a valuable resource.

Robin,
We’ve just started the process of revamping our website. What the public sees will be more of the “marketing” info for our college while the internal-related info (policies, procedures, forms etc..) will be placed on an intranet.

Good morning!
I wanted to piggyback on this request from Scott from last month.
Are there schools out there that have chosen to not have public websites for their Sponsored Research offices, and instead host the information only on sites for your own internal offices? How does this work for you? Have you felt any public pushback for not having information readily accessible to those outside your institution?
Our institution has recently adopted a policy of minimal public disclosure on our website, for lack of a better term. If it does not have to do with PR, student recruitment, athletics, or alumni giving, it goes on our internal server. I'm curious if there are others out there with similar policies. (This includes IRB and IACUC information).
Thanks, Robin

Hey everyone,
One of my job duties is to manage our Office of Research and Sponsored Programs web site.
We are about to migrate to a new system, and we just got a new VP of Research who is interested in revamping our site. He thinks that it's too difficult to navigate, particularly for someone new to research.
I agree, and told him it's akin to explaining to someone on the street what we all do for a living - it's not always easy!
Does anyone have any examples of web sites that the think 'gets it right'? There's probably several ways to tackle this, but I'm just hoping for some ideas to get my creativity flowing.
Thanks in advance!
P.S. Our site is http://www.moreheadstate.edu/research if you want to have a look.
