I agree. I’ve heard of peeling paint noted as a deficiency.

Yes.  They could/may affect the conditions and/or federal requirements.  Pam

Subject: [RESADM-L] IACUC Facility Inspection Question

IACUC Administrators (especially those from small institutions):

I need quick opinions…

Would your IACUC determine the following two items to be within the purview of the IACUC (i.e., would they point out these problems in the facilities inspection report) and expect the PI or facility manager (who, in our case, also happens to be the PI) to address them?  Or are these Physical Plant or EH&S concerns that should not be officially reported by the IACUC in the facility inspection:

1.       The PI has installed special lighting fixtures in an animal housing room and the cords on these lights are frayed.

2.       A sprinkler head is missing in an animal housing room.

Do either of these situations constitute a deficiency that is or may be a threat to animal health or safety that the IACUC should be concerned about?

Thanks for fast responses!

Barbara
