Our IACUC did offer the community member (non-employee) travel reimbursement (but she declined). We do provide her with Internet access and continuing education opportunities. The employee members are not compensated – only snacks at the meetings ; ) and we do get a thank you/appointment letter (it is a two year term).

I would concur with Rene. We do not receive any type of compensation for serving on the IRB or IACUC committees. I do receive a letter of appointment to the committee each year.

Barbara,
At my current institution and the 3 prior ones, the institution does/did not provide any monetary acknowledgement for their service. Here at EUP, we are beginning the practice of providing a thank you letter each year that documents their service.
Cheers,
Rene

What kinds of support does your institution provide to community members who serve on your IRB and or IACUC…things like reimbursement for paper and toner cartridges, use of university laptop, paying for home internet connection or even gifts (from private funds, of course) and at approximately what annual dollar amount? We want to do something for these wonderful volunteers and are looking for ideas and norms. Thanks!
Barbara
