RACC also generally gives the review session prior to SRA meetings as well - so if you are one of the many who have registered for "Research Administration & All That Jazz" in New Orleans (http://www.srainternational.org/sra03/template/tntbnesa11.cfm?id=3628)- you can register separately for the RACC review (http://cra-cert.org/) which is happening soon: Saturday, March 26th at The Royal Sonesta Hotel.

Given everyone's budget and travel constraints, it makes good economic sense to double up on educational/professional development opportunities whenever possible.

BTW - its not too late to register for the SRA meeting either - early bird registration ends March 4th and the SRA hotel rate ends on Feb. 22nd... don't miss out! Hope to see you in NOLA...

Linnea and others interested in taking the CRA exam:

I went one day early to NCURA Annual Meeting last year so I could attend the review session. I know they always plan a review session just prior to the Annual Meeting. It was well worth the extra day to make sure that I was ready to take the exam and know where I had weaknesses so I could focus my studying on those areas. It was an enjoyable day with some nice folks and excellent facilitators (even though some of us would have preferred to be at the Jon Stewart Rally on the mall). If you have the opportunity, take advantage of it. You won’t’ regret it! I took the exam in December and am pleased to say that I passed and just received my certificate last week.

Hi Kim,

Thanks for sending this information.  I am very interested in attending a BOK review session, but due to budget constraints I am not able to attend more than one professional development session in any fiscal year.  Are there any plans to schedule a BOK review session for the CRA exam at the NCURA annual meeting in Washington D.C. this fall?

Thanks,

Linnea

I have been a member of the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) for about 3 years. As a strong supporter of the research administration community, I really see the benefits of receiving a CRA.  One of the professional development opportunities that RACC offers that I’m not sure is broadly known is a review of the Body of Knowledge (BOK) for the Certified Research Administrator (CRA) exam.

Those sessions provide a way to become familiar with the outline of information upon which the exam is based and to determine in which areas of RACC’s BOK you may need additional study.  I would strongly encourage you to attend a review session if you are considering taking the CRA exam.

Many CRA BOK sessions have already been scheduled in different locations throughout the year so one of them might be in your neighborhood.   Also some of the sessions are scheduled on dates which coincide with SRA and NCURA meetings so you could possibly maximize limited professional development funds and combine several opportunities to learn into one trip.

I thought it might be helpful to you to have the schedule of BOK sessions.  There will also be other sessions scheduled later in the year so you might want to check RACC’s website http://cra-cert.org/ for updates and more information about the review sessions.

March 14, 2011 at Four Seasons Sheraton in Greensboro, NC (coincides with NCSRA meeting)

March 26, 2011 at Royal Sonesta Hotel in New Orleans, LA (coincides with SRA Southern/Northeast Section meeting)

April 1, 2011 at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA

April 16, 2011 at Cleveland Marriott Downtown Hotel in Cleveland, OH (coincides with NCURA Region IV meeting)

April 30, 2011 at Wild Dunes Resort in Isle of Palms, SC (coincides with NCURA Region III meeting)

May 14, 2011 at Westin Long Beach Hotel in Long Beach, CA (coincides with SRA Western/Midwest Section meeting)

May 17, 2011 at Omni New Haven Hotel in New Haven, CT (coincides with NCURA Region I meeting)

June 3, 2011 at Auburn University in Montgomery, AL

August 25, 2011 at Baylor Research Institute in Dallas, TX

I hope to see you and your colleagues at a CRA BOK review session this year.
