Summary of Position:
The post-award Senior Grant Administrator (SGA) provides project management support for all post-award activities for research grants, contract and subcontract applications. The SGA understands the unique processes involved in the overall research effort and has the ability to comprehend the needs of the individual researchers. The SGA is responsible for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with faculty, staff and students to provide post-award project management. The SGA provides a cohesive and flexible post-award management of sponsored funding that: assists Principal Investigators (PIs) with fiscal management of transactions related to grant/contract management; maintains grant/contract records to ensure they are expensed in a manner that is fiscally prudent and in full compliance with all federal, state, local, institutional and granting agency regulations, terms and conditions; supports the communication of University policies; fairly applies rules and restrictions of all sponsors and the University; supports and improves the financial sophistication of the University's Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP); and builds processes to support ORSP and the research community.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience in post-award sponsored programs in an academic or equivalent setting.
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business, finance or similar area relevant to post-award grants administration is required.
- Demonstrated post-award financial management experience with all types of award mechanisms, including grants, contracts, subcontracts, and cooperative agreements is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of program administration guidelines of both Federal and non-Federal funding agencies.
- Knowledge of federal regulations, policies, procedures, circulars, laws applicable to grant contract activity, in particular the PHS and NIH Grants Policy Statements, as well as, familiarity with federal and non-profit regulations, policies, procedures, including OMB Circulars and Federal Acquisition Regulations is required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to be flexible and highly organized are essential.
- Creative problem solving skills, with the ability to prioritize and work under pressure in a deadline oriented environment.
- Strong record of superior customer service focus.
- Demonstrated high degree of initiative and independent judgment is required. Ability to act with discretion and judgment and maintenance of confidentiality is vital.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member with other central administrative units of the university is essential.
- Must have ability to understand and apply university policies and procedures, as well as the laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to grants, contracts, cooperative agreements, sub-awards and subcontracts.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare summary reports is required.
- Must demonstrate ability to participate in initiatives to improve university business processes related to the conduct of sponsored programs.
- Advanced skills in the use of electronic sponsored program services systems (e.g., NSF Fastlane, Grants.gov, NIH Commons) is requisite.
- Advanced computer skills, including facility with the internet, and proficiency with programs such as Access, Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat is required.
- Additional expertise in: human-subject compliance, intellectual property, conflict of interest, subcontracts, patent and copyright law, and cost-accounting standards is preferred.
- Membership in professional organizations such as SRA and/or NCURA is preferred.
