Position Summary

This position provides university-wide leadership for the development and pre-award administration of externally funded grants and contracts and related research functions.

 

Additionally this position provides university-wide leadership by planning and implementing grant resource procurement strategies in support of university initiatives.  This includes working with selected faculty groups to develop competitive proposals for multi-year funding and assisting in developing and maintaining federal and corporate relationships that will foster such funding.

 

Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

• Direct and facilitate all aspects of creation, submission, and administration of grants and contracts (e.g., generate proposal submissions, resolve problems, provide advice, approve personnel actions, etc.).  Interpret and ensure compliance with all Federal and State laws, regulations, and guidelines.  Ensure reports and forms are correct and submitted on time; may review and research audit findings and assist in defense of audit reports.  Approve proposed projects for submission; supervise implementation of grants upon receipt.  Coordinate efforts and work closely with Grants Accounting to ensure the proper and transparent administration of pre- and post-award activities.

 

• Work with Human Resources, Controller’s Office, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, University Budget Office, Provost Office, etc. as needed to ensure the effective administration of day to day business functions, as necessary.

 

• Identify and execute strategies to pursue and secure new sources of research and sponsored program funding utilizing all available data sources, external liaisons, internal stakeholders, and professional contacts.  Work with faculty as assigned by the Vice President for Research and Economic Development to assist in the development of grant procurement strategies in support of university initiatives.

 

• Lead, guide, direct, manage and supervise SPAR staff and provide daily guidance for preparing grant proposals, budgets, resolving issues, responding to questions, and ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the SPAR office.

 

• Develop and present training workshops, seminars, and classes on grant writing, research administration, compliance requirements, etc. 

 

• Attend and participate in the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) and the Society of Research Administrators (SRA). Identify actions to be taken by BGSU to remain in compliance with new/changing regulations.  Develop contacts and professional relationships with colleagues at other IUC schools and identify meaningful ways for SPAR and BGSU faculty to collaborate with others.

 

• Committee service and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities

Knowledge of sources of private and public funding; local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to grant and contract administration; budgeting; strategic planning; relevant computer applications and packages used for proposal submission and reporting; A working knowledge of administration of post-award grant activities.

 

Skill in written and interpersonal communication and ability to make effective presentations to professional groups.  The ability to provide leadership and direction to sponsored programs staff and faculty members.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree required.  Prefer master’s degree in Business Administration or Educational Administration. Also required five years experience in research administration in university or funding agency setting and four to five years experience in sponsored programs administration and knowledge of federal grants and contracts related laws and regulations.

 

Salary

Full-time administrative staff position. Salary commensurate with education and experience. Full benefit package available.
