My solution, though hardly optimal, has been to have my institution fund membership in one and to cough up personal hard-earned funds for membership in the other. I agree heartily with Debbie that timing has been a major obstacle in participation.

It would be an interesting study - hopefully no IRB or IACUC approval needed ; ) to see how many of the more than 2000 people on this list are members of either SRA or NCURA or both. For many it is not only a matter of economics, but of timing. Often the meetings overlap and compete directly with one another.

I’ve been in both for years, too.  Now that money is tight, I’ll have to choose as Wil has.  It’s a shame, though, because each organization will provide you with different colleagues, different networks.  And if you don’t have a network of colleagues in this business, you just can’t do your job as well and efficiently.

So far as I know there is no reason you couldn't belong to SRA.  When money got tight, OVPR made a decision to fund a conference and membership in either NCURA or SRA.  You chose NCURA and I chose SRA.  I would also welcome membership in both.
