I
would like to thank everyone who took the time to reply to my question, both on
and off list. I received a number of replies confirming that most of us require
our subs to give us something in writing prior to submission. However, that
really wasn’t my question. I apologize if my question was unclear. I’d
like to try once more:
When
you are LEAD, do YOU sign anything prior to submission for the SUB?
Your
patience with my asking twice is appreciated, and I hope I worded the question
better this time. Replies on and off list are welcome.

Dear colleagues:
We have a question about how
other universities work with their subawardees from private industry when
collaborating on proposals to federal agencies:
Prior to proposal submission,
does the lead university ever sign a contract agreeing to submit a proposal
with the private industry partner, or agreeing to use that particular private
industry partner in the event of an award?
What are the advantages or
disadvantages of signing such an agreement on the front end?
Replies on and off list are all
welcome.
