Deborah:
At Keene State College (a small PUI), we
have both a Faculty Development Grant fund (http://www.keene.edu/grants/fac_appguidelines.cfm)
and an Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects Grant fund (http://www.keene.edu/grants/UGR_guidelines.cfm),
both of which are supported with funding from the Provost’s Office.
The challenge that we have found with our Faculty Development grant fund, is
that the criteria for the fund was intentionally broad and now it has turned
into a travel fund for faculty. We are trying to shift the culture to
think of the fund as seed money for research projects (ideally to promote
additional external funding applications), but it’s slow going.
Good luck --

Subject: [RESADM-L] Presidential
Min-Grant Incentive
Hello all.
Our president
wants to implement a 'mini-grant' incentive program to support faculty and
student research. We are a small PUI attempting to create and sustain research
opportunities for students.
The idea is to
utilize a competition and award $500-$1500 to winning applicants for purposes
of travel to present at regional, national, or international academic
conferences, support for equipment or other items required for a research
project, etc.
Do any of you
have this type of program? Any suggestions or links to information? What
results did you get?
As always, many
thanks for your replies.
