Would your institution normally pay a faculty member an administrative
stipend over and above the regular salary for extra administrative
responsibilities? If when faculty serve as interim chairs, e.g., do they
receive an admin stipend in lieu of an actual salary boost? If the
institution has such a policy, does that allow for the payment of such stipends
from federal grants?

Can anyone tell me whether stipends are an allowable expense on
federal funds?
We have a faculty member who is director of a
federally-funded
cooperative institute, and as compensation for his
effort (above and
beyond his normal teaching/research/etc.), we're
being asked to pay
him a stipend off of the administrative funding
portion of the
award. We have always used these funds in the
past to pay for other
salaries in the past, but never for excess
income. This is an
administrative stipend being paid in
recognition of extra
administrative
responsibilities.
Thanks!
