Director, Office of Sponsored Programs

COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY invites experienced, forward-thinking leaders to apply for the position of Director of Sponsored Programs.  Sponsored Programs provides a full range of pre- and post-award services to principal investigators, the campus and external sponsors, including funding resources information, proposal submission and award negotiation, material transfer and non disclosure agreements, financial management of accounts, database management, and implementation of electronic research administration. The Director of Sponsored Programs reports to the Associate Vice President for Research and is responsible for a staff of 26 FTE including Administrative Professional and State Classified positions. RESPONSIBILITIES

v       Provide quality leadership to Sponsored Programs that includes guiding the organization to grow in its capacity to handle major multimillion dollar, multidisciplinary projects.

v       Implement effective management practices by providing high-quality, proactive customer service and oversight.

v       Interact with external sponsors, auditors, and higher-level University officials and other campus representatives, including Business and Financial Services, Internal Audit, Advancement and Strategic Initiatives and deans, department heads, and business officers in the academic units, on all matters relating to sponsored research administration. 

v       Develop, modify, and implement policies governing the conduct of externally funded activities to achieve compliance with regulatory requirements relating to sponsored programs. 

v       Serve as an institutional leader in the implementation of the Kuali Research Administration system and in developing programs and procedures for all aspects of electronic research administration. 

v       Facilitate interactions with the Colorado State University Research Foundation and CSU Ventures, Inc.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

·       Bachelor’s degree;

·       Minimum  ten years of experience in a foundational area related to research administration (e.g.,  areas of law, intellectual property, laboratory or research facility management, compliance, and/or research cost accounting);

·       Experience managing externally funded programs in a university setting or similar complex research environment;

·       Demonstrated knowledge of federal regulations and the legal and regulatory environment governing research administration in the conduct of academic research;

·       Experience interacting with federal and non-federal funding agencies;

·       Ability to apply computer technology to support research administration activities;

·       Commitment to diversity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·       Advanced degree;

·       Knowledge of and experience in export control; 

·       Experience with international contracting.
