We just
received the ERA advisory from NIH this morning. Among the software
changes they will be making tonight is “Send Email
notifications of application errors to Contact PIs only.” Does this
raise the red flag for anyone else? We’re concerned that we will no
longer be notified of error messages on applications. We consider this a
very risky proposition.
I’m hoping that I’m
misinterpreting and some of you can have information that can ally our
concerns. Thanks in advance for your
feedback.

How
are you affected?
New software will be introduced into the
eRA system tonight, May 18, between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. ET. During this
software release period you may experience a session drop, but you should be
able to immediately reconnect to the system.
What
is being done?
The new eRA software includes a number
of system enhancements and defect fixes,
including:
Electronic Submission
Processing
- Limit Project
Ending Date to 20 years in the future.
- Send Email
notifications of application errors to Contact PIs
only.
- Generate a
warning if the Bibliography and References Cited section is missing for NIH
applications.
- Limit the number
of appendix attachments to 10.
- Return an error
message if applicant attaches an empty file.
- Reinstate check
for .PDF file extension.
- Fix minor error
handling issues.
CRISP
- Indicate on the
Hit List screen whether a grant has multiple PIs. A hyperlink labeled
“Multiple” will be displayed, instead of the PI name, for any multiple-PI
grant. When clicked, the hyperlink will cause a list of all PIs
associated with the grant to be displayed.
- Indicate on the
Abstract screen whether a grant has multiple PIs.
- Expand the
search logic to match PI name searches against all PIs associated with each
application.
- Designate the
Contact PI whenever multiple PI names are displayed for a
grant.
