Corey,

In Illinois, much of the federally supported bioterrorism preparedness funding is administered through either the state's department of public health or its emergency management agency. As a hospital, my organization receives a portion of this funding each year, and it is allocated according to a statewide plan for preparedness. We have some flexibility in the use of the funds, so some decisions about how the funds are used are done at the local level, and we may include such things as helping training ambulance crews for response, buying radios so that responders can communicate with the same tools and same protocols. I would suggest that the university's post office (perhaps the sponsored program office can help, too) contact your regional emergency preparedness group. I don't know how this might be structured in Utah, but you could start by contacting local authorities or even your local hopsital emergency department administrator. It is possible that they can identify funding for you.

Subject: [RESADM-L] Funding Opportunities for Post Office Safety Equipment

I have a unique funding opportunity question to pose to the List.  I was recently approached by the director of our campus post office.  In the light of the state of things in the world now (i.e. Post 9-11, Capitol Hill Anthrax Scares, etc.) he has enquired about the availability of funds to purchase equipment to deal with postal and shipping related safety issues.  Is anyone familiar with funding opportunities related to this kind of equipment.  I would imagine that this would include equipment that would X-Ray packages, explosive detection devices, equipment to quarantine suspicious packages, etc.  Any assistance that can be provided by the List members will be greatly appreciated.  Feel free to respond on or off of the list.

Thanks,

S. Corey Burger
